In Loving Memory of

Dennis R. "Stenner" Sten

August 23, 1956–July 14, 2012

Denny could make you laugh until you cried. He was passionate about hockey and loved the game. He began with the CCJHA, then the Houghton Gremlins high school hockey; Continental Hockey League - Peoria Blades (1974 - 1978); Portage Lake Pioneers, and the Copper Country Old Timers. He is deeply missed by all who knew him.

We are humbled and deeply grateful to share that the CCJHA has received an anonymous donation in loving memory of former CCJHA player Dennis “Stenner” Sten. Dennis went on to play high school hockey, the Continental Hockey League, with the Portage Lake Pioneers, and the CC Old Timers, while being a mentor to youth hockey players during and after his playing career. His lifelong passion for hockey and his commitment to youth development reflect the very mission of the CCJHA.

This generous gift will double the amount of funding available to support CCJHA players during the 2025–26 season. As part of this support, the Board offers scholarships to assist families facing financial challenges. These scholarships ensure our youth have the opportunity to get on the ice. We cannot overstate our gratitude for this incredible contribution to our families and players.

Scholarship applications are open now through October 1, 2025 and can be completed online at the link below. Applications will be reviewed by a committee and families will be notified following the October 8, 2025 CCJHA Board of Directors meeting.
