Information for Officials

The Copper Country Junior Hockey Association employs ice officials for house and travel divisions. Only officials who have fulfilled the requirements set forth by USA Hockey will be considered.

Officials in the CCJHA are considered independent contractors.

Scheduling and Payments

CCJHA uses the Assignr platform for all scheduling and payments. All payments are made through direct deposit; no paper checks are issued.

Requirements

Age Requirements

Officials must be at least 11 years of age or older. If you are under the age of 18, you must obtain a work permit from your school.

  1. The referee (you) will complete and sign Section II. CCJHA will complete Section I and return the permit to you.
  2. CCJHA will fill out the Section I and then return the permit to you.
  3. Section III must be then filled out by your school and signed. Return the signed form to one of our score sheet boxes.

Required Equipment

Make sure you have the required gear:

  • Referee sweater
  • Black pants
  • Black helmet with visor
  • Neck guard (required for officials under the age of 18; optional for 18+)
  • Whistle
  • Other equipment as specified in the USA Hockey Officiating Handbook

USA Hockey Credentials and Clinic

All officials must complete a USA Hockey registration for 2024-2025 and attend and complete a USA Hockey officials seminar.

A USAH official's membership is valid through November 30 of the following season (e.g., a 2023-24 membership is valid through November 30, 2024). If a returning referee does not complete their current season membership prior to November 30, their membership expires and they become ineligible to work USA Hockey sanctioned games until they complete their current season membership registration.

Per USA Hockey, you must register for a 2024-25 Officiating Membership by October 31, 2024. You then have until December 31, 2024, to complete your clinic. USA Hockey wil not process any Official membership registrations after October 31, 2024.

Safe Sport and Background Check

If you are 18 years old or older, you must complete a USA Hockey background check and SafeSport Training. The online program is free of charge and is hosted on the U.S. Center for SafeSport web platform.
